These trees give the whole street shade, cleaner air and character, not to mention homes for our wildlife. They’re part of what makes this somewhere people want to live. And once they’re gone, they’re gone.

A fairer option exists. We’re not being offered it.

We don’t feel the council’s own studies, reports and policies back up the plan to cut down all our trees. We’ve included the key facts here. Everything below comes straight from those documents.

• The council want to remove all fifteen street trees on our road. (Statement of Reasons)
• Only two were flagged because of their condition. The other thirteen established trees are being sacrificed for a clearer pavement. (Feasibility Study, p3)
• Four options were assessed. One would fix the footway and keep ten trees. We’re only being asked about the one that removes them all, with no promise to replant our road. (Feasibility Study; Decision Report)
• No costs were worked out for any of the four options. (Feasibility Study, p3)
• Five days before this consultation opened, a new council policy came into effect saying it “does not generally remove healthy trees”, because they help wildlife and the climate. (Tree Management Strategy 2026–2029)
• Drainage was left out, and no checks were done on how removing the trees could affect the ground or nearby houses on this steep hill. (Feasibility Study, p4)

We believe there’s a better option for our trees.
